I am a first-generation graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio. While enrolled at UTSA I was able to simultaneously enroll in the dental program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Upon graduation from dental school in May of 2001, I came back to Laredo to practice.
Seeing the need for dental services in Laredo, I accepted a temporary position for the city of Laredo as acting chief of dental services. After that, I opened my private practice in north central Laredo. I have been practicing there for over fifteen years. After several years of attending numerous dental conferences in and out of the state of Texas, I began to get a better feeling of where I would like to focus my skills on.
Each year I attend state or national dental conferences where I obtain additional continuing dental education courses. It was during these courses that I became introduced to the emerging field of implant dentistry. Consequently, I signed up with a preceptorship program in implant dentistry through my alma mater UTHCSA. Additionally, I followed up with implant courses at LVI institute. While my interest in the field of implantology grew, the work of my father as an orthodontist continued to hold my interest. I remember crossing weekly to see the work he loved to do and the beautiful results he was able to achieve in his field. Therefore, I enrolled and completed a two-year course in orthodontics to pursue this field of dentistry. While training in Florida, I continued to work full time in Laredo. The sacrifices made by my family and I have benefited many patients in Laredo. The flexibility of being a general dentist has also allowed me to pursue advanced studies in periodontal work with respect to the pinhole technique and sedation dentistry through the DOCS program. I believe education is key to any practice. I encourage all my staff to take continuing education courses beyond the state required courses. They are trained in different aspects of dentistry.
Each of my staff has their strengths. I am up to date in my required continuing education courses. I am a member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and the International Academy of Mini Dental Implants. The field of general dentistry has allowed me the freedom to work with patients of all ages. I love seeing the amazing results that can be accomplished through patient compliance, my dedicated staff and my skills. My staff and I thoroughly enjoy bringing back confidence to our patients with respect to their smiles, oral hygiene and basic dental functions such as tooth or gum restorations. Sedation dentistry has allowed even our most sensitive patients to achieve good oral health. We offer a wide variety of services to meet your family needs from basic restorations to orthodontia to implantology. If a service is not currently being offered, don’t be afraid to ask! I might be interested in taking courses in that area or I can refer you to a specialist. Thank you for allowing me to guide and assist you in your dental needs.
